      2019 Latino Health 5K Volunteers

The West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is holding the Latino Health 5K on Saturday, August 24th at Roosevelt Park! Every year the race has grown in number and the Chamber continues to work to make it a great community event. These events wouldn’t be successful without the help of volunteers and again this year we’re in need of help in several areas. Please review the volunteer descriptions and time commitments to see if you or your friends would be able to help with this year’s race. You can find the descriptions and time commitments when you select register. We are in need of many people so spread the word if you know of someone else that could have interest. All volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt.  About the Latino Health 5K: With a focus on health and wellness promotion, the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held its first Annual Latino Health 5K Run/Walk in September of 2015.The goal was to encourage Hispanic families to maintain a healthy lifestyle and incorporate physical activity, such as running or walking, into their daily lives. Chronic illnesses such as diabetes and high cholesterol, affect minority groups at an increased rate, which has been attributed to poor diet and lack of exercise. We believe by showcasing the fun side of physical activity through a family-oriented 5K walk and run, participants can feel energized and prepared to continue striving toward better overall community health. The run/walk begins and finishes at Roosevelt Park and winds through Grandville Avenue and surrounding park area.Just four years after the first Latino Health 5K, we have over 400 participants and our goal remains centered on elevating the health of the Hispanic community. While the event is geared towards the Latino community, we invite all of West Michigan to support in our endeavor to promote healthy habits and a balanced lifestyles. Funds raised for  and during this event allow us to continue our initiatives that promote the economic advancement of Hispanic owned businesses.
